Therapeutic Trampolining

TheraBounce specializes in the provision of therapeutic trampolining for children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, diagnoses, and needs. TheraBounce’s therapeutic trampolining sessions incorporate principles of Rebound Therapy, in combination with other therapeutic techniques and approaches to provide individualized sessions tailored to the client’s goals, strengths and support needs.

Here are some key aspects of therapeutic trampolining:

  1. Physical Exercise: Trampolines provide a low-impact, adaptable environment to engage in physical exercise. Bouncing on a trampoline (both independently and with support) helps individuals develop and improve their balance, coordination, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

  2. Sensory Stimulation: Bouncing on a trampoline provides the individual with both vestibular and proprioceptive input, which can be calming and regulating for individuals with sensory processing needs. This can support self regulation, sensory integration, reducing hyperactivity or anxiety, and improve body awareness.

  3. Improved Gross Motor Skills: Therapeutic trampolining can aid in the development of gross motor skills, including rolling, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, jumping, and transitions.

  4. Enhancing Social Skills: Trampoline therapy sessions provide an opportunity for social interaction and engagement with a 1:1 therapeutic trampoline specialist which is associated with improvement in following instructions, turn taking, and awareness of personal space.

  5. Boosting Confidence: Achieving success on the trampoline, whether it's mastering a new skill or simply bouncing independently, can boost an individual's self-esteem, confidence, and autonomy.

  6. Emotional Regulation: The rhythmic bouncing on a trampoline can have a calming and soothing effect, helping individuals regulate their emotions and reduce stress and anxiety.

  7. Fun and Motivation: One of the significant advantages of therapeutic trampolining is that it's enjoyable and motivating, making it very intrinsically motivating for individuals to engage in therapy regularly and progress.

  8. Adaptable: The trampoline is an environment that can be adapted to meet almost any support needs. Therapeutic trampoline sessions can support individuals with complex and varying needs, with goals being flexible from skill acquisition, to relaxation and enjoyment, to strengthening, to self regulation… the list goes on.

TheraBounce’s team of Therapeutic Trampoline Specialists include a variety of health care professionals. Please see below for information differentiating the therapeutic trampoline sessions.

PT/OT led sessions: Session are completed with a registered physiotherapist or occupational therapist with therapeutic goals developed and progressed towards throughout the sessions. Such goals may include: improve range of motion, strengthening, balance, coordination, self regulation, secretion clearance, executive functioning, motor planning etc.

Therapy assistant led sessions: Therapy assistant led sessions are appropriate for clients who are interested in a structured, goal-based session focusing on motor skills; however, do not require seeing an OT or PT regularly.

Recreational sessions: These recreational sessions are appropriate for those who wish for a less structured session and with a focus on child-led activities, independent bouncing, and basic trampoline skill development.

Our therapeutic trampoline sessions are typically 45 minutes in length; however, 30 and 60 minute options are available as well. Sessions are provided on weekends and after-school times at our North York, Markham, and Woodbridge locations. We can also accommodate groups (schools, field trips, community outings, etc.) during the daytimes at our North York and Markham locations.
